The Brazilians Must Think I'm Louco

Went to the supermarket today, and was muito excited to see what I think are clementines (the sign said something else en Portuguese.) So, I'm rummaging in the crate, picking out the fruits with the stems. I just like fruit better with stems - call me weirdo, beardo. I know the other shoppers, Brazilians, all thought I was crazy, but Stateside (as you all probably know), you'll pay more for fruit that has stems and/or leaves at places like Central Market or Whole Foods - that's because THOSE places got it goin' on in the aesthetic food world!
I wonder why "the norm" in The States is for fruit and veggie greenery to be removed???
