A Guide to Shelf Styling and an AGI announcement
We received such great feedback on the shelf styling for our mid-century project, I thought it might be useful to break down how we go about styling shelves, and to make an exciting announcement!
The styling phase is one of the last in the design process, and is so important to completing the overall vibe of the design. (See my recent post on design implementation) For that reason, there's styling variations that contribute to the design, but there's also a formula that works regardless of the look you're going for.
AGI Shelf Styling Formula:
- Gather an even mix of books and curated artifacts or items.
- Place some books horizontally to act as platforms for artifacts.
- When going for a neutral palette (as we were with the mid-century project), place books with the spines facing in. The view of the pages contributes to a more calm, edited feel.
- Place books and artifacts in a way that there is "breathing room" between them. This allows each item to participate in the design.
