Project Reveal: Vintage Vibe Kitchen
Sometimes a project comes along that just steals your heart. This one did that for me. Our amazing client came to us with a desire to lighten, brighten, and revamp her family’s kitchen. Upon meeting her for the first time, we talked about places they’d traveled, colors they loved, and the overall atmosphere she craved for the space. We were kindred spirits in our outlook, and I immediately had a sense of the design direction: emphasize and enlarge the opportunity for natural light, use a lot of white, but make it interesting and unique. It was just a matter of fleshing out the details!
THE TASK
In order to create symmetry, maximize function and natural light, we decided to remove the corner sink, and shift the windows, so we could make one larger opening with a sink underneath. In other words, BRING IN THE VIEWS!
From there, we moved the fridge to a side pantry area, and centered the range, which gave us an opportunity to design symmetrical upper and lower cabinets.
The island was enlarged slightly to offer maximum storage and seating.
THE MATERIALS
All cabinets are from my color select collection with Unique Kitchens and Baths. The perimeter color is “Ironstone,” and the island is “Savon.” We chose a 4x4 ceramic tile with an irregular, handmade look, and ran it all the way to the ceiling. The “language” of the design was a loose interpretation of a French bistro or patisserie, which we referenced with dark grout around the tile, glass-front cabinets, and vintage lighting. Another special detail was the stellar marble selected for the island countertop - truly a showstopper! The perimeter countertops are Silestone - Soapstone, a product I’ve used on several occasions, and just love for its fantastic look and ease of care. Every element came together in such a fresh, cohesive way, and I couldn’t love it any more!
KEEPING IT REAL:
COVID brought so many delays and issues to this project, and I can’t say enough how grateful I am to our clients who handled the delays and frustrations with such grace and fortitude. Knowing these are privileged problems to have, we all need our homes to be our comfort, our refuge, and we’re doing everything we can to help our clients obtain that.
