Design Idol: Roman and Williams
The work of an Interior designer rests on our ability to call upon what inspires us, and translate it into our own vernacular. As a relatively new designer, I study the work of more seasoned professionals, and try to distill down what is about their work that inspires me. It's hard to imagine that at one time, they too were young firms just getting their name and aesthetic out there. There are those whose work I'm drawn to like a moth to a flame, they are my design idols.
The partners-in-work-and-life design duo of Roman and Williams (aka Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch) are masters at creating soulful, layered, authentic interiors. Their spaces are an experience, and force you to take in every considered detail, and how it was used to complete a very distinct mood.
The latest endeavor by the duo is RW Guild - a place where mere mortals can experience what Roman and Williams designate, "the best of everything we make and love." Technically, it's part retail space, part restaurant, part floral shop, but I suspect no detail has been spared, and a visit is nothing short of a dream for the senses.
The selections at the Guild are often commissioned by the design firm from skilled artisans. There is inherent uniqueness and quality in the items that provide a highly curated effect. In other words, very difficult to duplicate. Many of the furniture and housewares are only available via inquiry or in person. So, until you have a chance to visit the Guild, you can shop some items to help get the RW look!
