Casa AGI - Our Paint Color Selection
There’s one question I’ve gotten over and over since we moved into our San Antonio house:
“What are your paint colors?!”
Selecting paint colors can feel like an overwhelming decision, but because we had our house painted prior to moving in, I had very little time to ponder colors - I just grabbed two I thought went well together, and set the tone I knew I wanted for the house. Against anything I’d ever recommend to a client, I didn’t test them anywhere before giving the go-ahead. I’m so glad THAT worked out! When we bought the house, the walls were a fairly dark taupe color, with off-white trim. I knew I wanted a neutral palette that was consistent throughout the house, and that I wanted to flip the darker-wall-lighter-trim concept around. I had no idea what furniture would go where, so it was easier and more efficient to pick colors I knew would work well with just about everything we owned. As it turned out, a lot of our things are put together in different configurations than they were in our previous home, but somehow, they still work together, and I think having a consistent wall/trim palette in the house allowed for that kind of flexibility.
Because of the heritage of our home (built in the 1930s), and the Spanish influence in San Antonio, I wanted a somewhat “antique” feeling white for the walls and ceiling - something that was fairly creamy, but not too yellow. To get that look, I went with Sherwin Williams Alabaster in a scrubbable flat finish. For the trim and doors, I chose Naturel - also by Sherwin Williams, in semi-gloss.
To give our family room a cozier take on the same palette, we painted the walls and trim in Naturel, in the same mix of flat and semi-gloss finishes we did throughout the rest of the house. I love how it sets the space apart just slightly, and still feels cohesive with the rest of the home.
So, there you have it! The answer to the everlasting paint question about our casa!
